People Will Judge You Regardless

  • Don’t Take It Personally

I’ve come to learn in my journey through life that it’s human nature to form opinions and make observations about the people and things around us. Discernment is a natural part of being human. However, there is a difference between observing something and unfairly condemning someone without truly knowing them.

So why do we find it so easy to judge others? It’s almost as if finding fault in someone else without acknowledging our own flaws makes us feel better in some way. This is where judging can become harmful.

When you look up the word judge, it means to form an opinion, estimate, or critical assessment of someone or something. It can also mean to suppose, guess, or think based on what we observe. This is the standard definition of judging.

The useful part of judging is discerning a person. We naturally try to understand why someone carries themselves the way they do or why they choose the lifestyle they live. On the other hand, judging becomes negative when we assume who a person is and what their character is like without ever taking the time to know them. This reminds me of what my great mother used to always tell me, “Never judge a book by its cover.”

So if you find someone being judgmental toward you, remember that people often make quick opinions based on what they see, and try not to take it personally. You could politely ask that person why they are treating you that way. Or you can simply develop a strong mentality and not worry about what others think because you have come to the conclusion that people will judge you regardless.

Our first natural response is often to try to understand why things are the way they are.

  • Why Do People Judge?

As stated earlier, it is natural for people to make observations and form opinions. It does not necessarily have to involve people all the time. It can also involve situations, places, or things. Maybe it’s a sport you enjoy or something you notice in your surroundings. Our first natural response is often to try to understand why things are the way they are.

For example, if you enjoy basketball and notice that the officials have changed many of the rules, you might ask why there are different rules now and why things seemed better before those changes. That type of judging is natural because it is based on observation and understanding.

Another reason people judge is because some do not fully understand themselves. Instead of confronting their own flaws, they focus on judging others to hide their own shortcomings. This type of judging can become harmful because it comes from criticism rather than understanding. Judging with fairness by taking the time to know someone instead of making assumptions is much more beneficial.

I am learning that God judges us much differently than we judge one another.

  • Who Is the Rightful Judge?

In many religions, people believe that God is the rightful Judge. This is because He holds all power and is the One who created us and the universe.

In my own journey, I am learning that God judges us much differently than we judge one another. This reminds me of the Scripture that says,

“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV)

Another Scripture that comes to mind is when Jesus said,

“Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”

Matthew 7:1–5 (KJV)

Jesus is basically saying that before you begin judging your brother, first examine yourself and remove the same faults you are judging him for. This kind of judgment is harmful to the soul because it often comes from a condescending and critical attitude.

Remember that God is the rightful Judge because He knows what is truly going on in every situation. Instead of looking at us with condemnation, the good Lord looks upon us with love and compassion.

Their responsibility is to uphold justice and maintain order within society.

  • Why Rightful Judgment Can Be Useful.

(Righteous Judgment and Judges in Court)

While we should be careful not to condemn others unfairly, there are situations where judgment is necessary to uphold justice and protect society.

Imagine if we had no order or structure in this world, in our countries, states, cities, and communities. It would be complete chaos. This is where rightful judgment becomes useful.

Many of you reading this have probably been to some type of court. Our favorite is traffic court. Haha!

For example, if you are recklessly driving with road rage, speeding, and showing no regard for the safety of others, you may be pulled over by a police officer and given a ticket to appear in court. Later, you will stand before a judge. The judge will assess your actions and determine whether you have broken the law. If you have, you may have to pay a significant fine or even face jail time.

This is an example of rightful judgment because judges have an obligation to evaluate people’s actions according to the law. Their responsibility is to uphold justice and maintain order within society. This kind of judgment protects others and helps communities function in a fair and orderly way. It is the kind of structure we need, especially in today’s world.

There are many layers to judging in every aspect of life.

  • How to Handle Judgment From Others

Keep a strong mentality when receiving judgment from others. Realize that you will be judged in life no matter what you are trying to accomplish or what kind of lifestyle you choose to live.

Keep God in your heart and focus on what He says about you rather than how others judge or view you. Also remember that some people are dealing with their own personal flaws and struggles. Sometimes their critical and judgmental attitude toward you is simply a way of avoiding their own issues.

There are many layers to judging in every aspect of life. How we judge situations and how we judge others ultimately reveals a great deal about our own character. Let us strive to judge with wisdom, fairness, and compassion, while remembering that God alone sees the whole picture and knows every heart.
